How to Choose the Right EZ-POUR® Solid Base Cap

You’re the kind of person who likes to do their homework, right? That’s not a bad quality at all. In fact, we admire those who put in the research before purchasing our product. As you may know, EZ-POUR® previously discussed how to choose the right spout. We’re now covering our variety of base caps. If you’re not sure which base cap is a good fit for your can, we’re here to help!

Why Purchase a Solid Base Cap?

Base caps come in handy for both storage and transportation. They provide an airtight seal that prevents spills, vapor leaks, and even oxidation (which causes gas to expire). Base caps also allow you to remove your EZ-POUR® spout whenever necessary. During the winter, you should detach the spout and keep it in a warmer area if you plan on using it again. While they are flexible, bending one in the cold may cause it to crack.

So what are your options?

Solid Base Cap Black

The black base cap has a fine thread, which makes it suitable for the following cans:

  • Blitz (gas, kerosene, and diesel)
  • Briggs & Stratton (early models)
  • Essence
  • Gott
  • Rubbermaid

Solid Base Cap Yellow

The yellow base cap has a coarse thread. It fits on cans including:

  • Anchor (requires Chilton adapter)
  • Blitz
  • Briggs & Stratton (later models)*
  • Chilton (requires Chilton adapter)
  • Eagle
  • Igloo
  • Midwest Can (gas, water, diesel)
  • Military Jerry Can (requires jerry can adapter)
  • Scepter
  • Stancan (metal)

* may require grey base

Solid Base Cap Grey

Lastly, the grey base cap is used for cans such as:

  • Briggs & Stratton (later models)
  • Midwest Can (metal jerry can)
  • Stancan
  • Tee Pee
  • Wedco

What About Base Caps for Adapters?

It’s possible that you will need an adapter for your can. The yellow base cap is also compatible with EZ-POUR®’s Chilton adapter, Jerry Can adapter, 63mm “F” Style No-Spill adapter, and Racing Jug adapter.
